He starred as Sean McArthur, a young man who scrapes up a living scalping tickets in New York City. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Astalon tears of the earth bestiary![]() So, for example, even though the first boss is pretty far away from the starting point, it's a matter of seconds to return there if you do die. Maybe the reset location does change further on, but from where I am in the game you get access to shortcuts, teleports and elevators that get you back to where you were pretty quickly. Now I'm tempted to replay it on Switch while watching movies and such. Not too long ago, that mode got a heavy difficulty and economy rebalancing pass that finally made it to consoles, and just the other night, I dedicated around an hour to clearing that, and voila, platinum. This left me exactly one trophy shy of the platinum, but back in the day, Boss Rush was basically impossible for me. I took a break for around a week and then returned to clear up the two optional ancillary character modes that open up if you properly complete the game with the main cast. The map needed some work too, and even that's been improved. Some permanent perks and even attack upgrades were just completely busted, but now they're all fixed. ![]() The game was already very good even with those bugs and balancing issues still there (Steam was getting rapid-fire patches, but on console, they waited until they had like 10 or so patches in place before rolling them all into a single PS4 and Switch patch), but it's in a way better state now. There is something of a difficulty spike towards the end, but the most recent console patches (PS4 and Switch for sure) smooth some of that out and add a MUCH needed extra fast travel location towards the end of the troublesome biome. The gameplay is tight and fun, the level design straddles the line between great and spectacular, and the progression systems are, for the most part, incredibly satisfying. I absolutely love it, and find the combination of platformer, puzzle game, and exploration-based action-RPG to be a nearly perfect blend. Once that patch came around, my completion became 101% items / 100% map, since they added in an extra key to prevent a rare soft-lock issue, IIRC. Needless to say, I turned around and picked it up right away (but the PS4 version on PS5, instead).Īround 30 gameplay hours later, I had my first completion at 100%/100%, and this was mostly back before they patched out a ton of bugs and patched in a ton of QoL improvements. Almost two hours later, I had the demo fully cleared with 100% items and 100% map completion. I'm VERY tired of the 8-bit aesthetic, but when the demo hit Switch, I downloaded it on a lark to give it a try. And I read that the creator didn't play them much either and designed the game around what he imagined those games were like. I've heard the game compared to stuff like Maze of Galious and Legacy of the Wizard, but I never played those games back in the day. I definitely wouldn't want to look at a guide. I'm just enjoying the feeling of discovering things on my own. It also does some very NES game-like things with hidden things and how it reveals things to you. You also get to buy items like map markers and buffs after death, so dying isn't completely a bad thing. The main hook is that you switch between 3 characters (at a bonfire) with different abilities, so each one can reach different areas and then you open a shortcut to reach those areas with the others. It's all been about finding keys and hitting switches so far. I'm not sure if there's traversal abilities or anything. It's basically a Metroidvania? It has that kind of map and level design. Strengthen your party and change the rules by embracing death.I finally had the chance to get into this today and I really love it. ![]() Defeat terrible monsters, find powerful items, and solve puzzles, reaching new heights in the tower with every attempt. In an interview with Gay City News, Decaudin argued that Henderson-Rivers’ rhetoric falls into the same category as homophobia, sexism, xenophobia, and racism because although Henderson-Rivers said she does not hate, the language was voiced in a way that could be deemed dehumanizing and invalidating of peoples’ identities. In a Facebook post from October, Henderson-Rivers wrote, “Why is there something wrong with teaching little boys and little girls to be little boys and little girls?” That inflammatory rhetoric seen on Henderson-Rivers’ Facebook page also extended to gender expression. How is woman subset of something that came after? That makes ZERO sense when clearly ‘womxn’ was something created in the past couple of years and ‘woman’ has existed since the beginning of time.” That right there is misogyny and privilege. Henderson-Rivers proceeded to fire back to Decaudin in response, saying, “Emilia Decaudin you can’t possibly step in and tell ME about the struggles of being a woman. “Using the term womxn allows those non-binary people to be included in spaces that they ‘obviously’ deserve to be in without invalidating their gender or forcing them to identify as something they are not,” Decaudin wrote. As a black woman, who travels in older and more conservative circles, this is off putting.”Įmilia Decaudin, an out transgender member of the New York State Democratic committee and currently a candidate for both district leader and state committee in Queens’ 37th State Assembly District, opted to chime into that thread to explain the origin of the term “womxn.” It does the opposite and we feel excluded. “You can’t create a new term to be inclusive of others who don’t identify with that. “The X inclusion is actually an exclusion and I don’t understand why that is a hard concept for people to embrace,” Henderson-Rivers wrote. In fact, until folks stop trying to relabel and rebrand who we are, we will also continue to be divided.” She disputed the use of “womxn” - a term that is used to be inclusive of non-cinsgender women - when she wrote, “Again, I’m very clear on who I am and how I identify. Months later, in January, Henderson-Rivers again aggressively resisted respecting gender identities. No matter how hard you try, you can’t change it or duplicate it, you can only imitate it.” In yet another example of Henderson-Rivers dismissing the identities of trans women, she wrote that part of the magic of a woman “is not only in our heads and our hearts but in between our legs… The gift was given to us. In that comment, the wording of “have had” appears to falsely imply that as long as someone has a vagina, that person cannot be a transgender men or a non-binary person. Henderson-Rivers continued, “If you have or have had female reproductive organs you are a woman.” It should be noted, contrary to Henderson-Rivers’ comments, that there are indeed non-binary individuals and transgender men who are able to get pregnant. She also wrote, “And trans men can’t impregnate a woman so they are not men.” ![]() “I’m not going to call a cat a dog and a dog a cat even if the cat barks and the dog meows.” ![]() Why? Because ONLY women can get pregnant,” she wrote. And every now and then, the plates will fall and break – meaning, you lose nation support and they drop out from funding you. At best, you feel like you’re just spinning plates just to keep up. Things often happen beyond the long arm of your control, and that’s awesome. But you do lose out on the ability to stun or capture the remaining aliens for profit. One of the more forgiving and more welcome aspects of Xenonauts, is the fact that you don’t have to eliminate all threats to complete a mission, if you manage to hold a UFO for 5 turns, you emerge victorious. As time goes on during a mission, especially the dastardly night missions, you feel like the grim reaper is over your shoulder, cackling, waiting for you to make a mistake and send a soldier to their grave. When it is the aliens turn to move and attack, a big alien activity screen covers the map to mask anything you’ll see. Right-clicking a direction will set which way they face, also at a cost of movement. Each character has a ‘TU’, or Time Unit Reserve, where they will have savings account of action points to use for reactive fire. Movement is tile-based, with each action showing how many action points left in the pool. But it isn’t so different to what you’ve played in the past. Again, much more fleshed out and given many degrees of exactitude over the games that came before it. Should you choose to deploy your team, you’ll be put into the ground game. Something ofĪ UFO is then downed, you are given the option to air strike for a set amount of money, or deploy your soldiers for the chance of making more money at a greater risk of getting someone injured or killed. You can employ active-pause the real-time action to give yourself a great advantage and plan your attacks accordingly. This is pretty huge, as an automatic resolve will have a static chance of success, whereas a manual intercept allows you to swing the odds in your favor if you’re good enough. You’re given the option to intercept and fight them automatically, or manually. ![]() Compared to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the air game here is expanded. A scout will appear, and you can send ships to intercept. On the geoscape, or world view, you’ll scan for alien activity. This adds a personal touch that makes you care more about each decision you make when moving them on the ground against their alien adversaries. You’ll have the privilege of naming them, as well as equipping their weapons and classes. Your eight-man squad can be made up of anyone you choose. Those things will keep your people alive and make good money. Funding received allows you to spend it on research for basic technology, and then later on alien technology that is acquired. Next, is purchasing a med bay to heal wounded soldiers and a hangar. Find a more landlocked location, and you’ll be able to put up more radars and scan a larger area. This is the least advantageous place due to lack of spacious land. Regardless of where you live, you might be inclined to start a game in North America. Firstly, placing your base is crucial to success. There are ways to circumvent early failure. Should you make a poor decision early on with any of these stages, it could have a domino effect, you’ll lose nation support and have to restart. There’s the base building, the air game, and the ground game. There’s a formula to the game that having played XCOM at any time prior to this, which should make any Xenonauts player comfortable with how things go. You’re always on the brink of collapse, and this is what makes Xenonauts a more exhilarating experience over the XCOM games that inspired this. Being outmatched technologically, sets the tone of the game: you’re always the underdog and feel equally overwhelmed at all times. That is, when comparing the technology of the time to the aliens now invading Earth in Xenonauts. In 1979, the world was technologically disadvantaged as it neared the end of the Cold War. 12/30/2023 0 Comments Moneyguru philippines corporation![]() Learn more about how Hyphen Group connects technologies, empowers people and builds the future of finance at. eKos_connect was launched in 2019 and is a SaaS provider connecting financial institutions with digital partners, affiliates and new users, supporting over 200 integrations through its partnership network. Once failsafe mode is triggered, the router will boot with a network address of 192.168.1.1/24, usually on the eth0 network interface, with only essential services running. Note that modern OpenWrt always uses SSH, but early OpenWrt releases (15.05 and before) offered a telnet connection in this state but no SSH. Whichever trigger you use, the device will enter failsafe mode and you can access the command line with SSH (always possible) or a serial keyboard. However, do consult the available documentation for your device, as there is no default button assigned as a reset button and not all procedures work on every device. Usually, it is easiest to watch the LEDs. The message shown in the console is “ Press the key and hit to enter failsafe mode” This requires that you have attached a serial cable to the device. Why are some gardens in Japan “Zen” gardens, rather than merely a Japanese garden, an Asian-style garden, or even just a garden? Zen is a Japanese translation of Chan, which is a sinification of dhyāna, a Sanskrit word meaning “meditation.” The Zen sect of Buddhism prioritizes above all things the central activity of meditation, the means by which the Buddha himself received enlightenment while sitting under a pipal tree sometime in the sixth century BCE. It goes without saying, perhaps, that every act of beholding-whether inspired by contemplation or sightseeing-adds new dimensions to the meaning of these gardens.Ī Quick Introduction to Zen Aesthetics Zen mountains and “waterfall” in the garden of Daisen-in.Īt the outset, I would propose that Zen, despite its fabled love of simplicity, is a very complex subject that encompasses a wide range of religious, philosophical, and cultural topics, of which stylized landscaping is only a part. This essay will examine the Zen garden in several selected meanings: as an artifact of landscaping, as an aid to Buddhist contemplation, and, finally, as a kind of historical “text” to be read by the beholder. Yet burdened as we are with the heavy baggage of language and history, we have to try to understand the elusive elements of Zen enlightenment with the expedient means of words in the pedestrian contexts of mundane reality. Since the moment the monk Mahākāsyapa received the first dharma transmission from the Buddha himself, marked by a silent smile in response to the beholding of a white flower, this progenitor of Zen and his successors have privileged the wordless experience of satori (enlightenment) over the dialectical understanding of its logic. This is only appropriate since the transmission of Zen wisdom is supposed to be nonverbal. The image of the Zen garden, however it is consumed, “speaks” for itself, and provides us with a representation of spiritual quality that is best experienced rather than discursively argued. It is the glossy photograph, perhaps-and not necessarily a color photograph-that best evokes the contemplative quality of the Zen garden. Unless one has some pull with the monks and can visit the temple off-hours, to appreciate these gardens in the state of serene reflection that they are supposed to enhance is more or less impossible. While Zen gardens have been a fixture of Japanese aesthetics since the Muromachi Period (1336–1573), the purposes and meanings of these austere landscapes have been far less fixed, and indeed have changed somewhat since their first appearance as places for meditation in the Zen temples of medieval Japan.įor those of us who have been fortunate enough to visit such magnificent sites as Ryōanji or Tenryūji, the primary function of Zen gardens today seems to be to remind the busloads of tourists who visit these gardens how remote their hectic modern lives are from the tranquility that is promised- but not quite delivered-by the Zen temple environs.
